Maryland embracing ‘100 percent essential’ NIL through public collectives

As debate continues over the ever-changing NIL world, Maryland is embracing collectives and their importance in maintaining competitive teams while supporting student-athletes and their families.

Name, image, and likeness has altered the landscape of college sports forever and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon as players are finally allowed to financially capitalize on their personal brands.
Community outreach and its potential lasting impact were driving factors in how The Best is Ahead Foundation (TBIAF) was built before it officially launched late last summer. Now, Maryland football’s NIL foundation has been able to enjoy the benefits as they’ve been active within the community through the spring, including this past weekend.
MARYLAND FOOTBALL’S ALUMNI WEEKEND PROVES AN AIR OF EXCITEMENT, ENTHUSIASM, AND POSITIVITY SURROUNDS THE PROGRAM.
This past weekend, The Best Is Ahead Foundation (TBIAF) hosted several Maryland Football alumni events including a sold-out golf outing, a football social at GrillMarx Steakhouse in College Park, and an alumni reception at the Red-White Spring Game sponsored by Mission BBQ.
Mike Locksley took over the Maryland football program as head coach in 2019 and immediately made a splash on the recruiting trail by landing five-star wide receiver Rakin Jarrett and four-star quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa in 2020. The Terrapins then finished with the No. 19 recruiting class in 2021.
