About Us
The Best Is Ahead Foundation (TBIAF) is a nonprofit organization that was founded by the Locksley family with a deep commitment to uplifting underprivileged youth in the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia metropolitan areas and nationally. Recognizing the power of education, mentorship, and advocacy, TBIAF leverages the influence of college athletes’ name, image, and likeness to create meaningful opportunities for young people. By forging strong partnerships and engaging with communities, the foundation drives initiatives in literacy, mental wellness, gun violence prevention, and substance abuse awareness.Through these efforts, TBIAF aims to inspire positive change, ensuring that every child has access to the support and resources necessary to thrive.
OUR STORY
Remembering a son, a brother, and a friend, Meiko Locksley.
The Best Is Ahead Foundation was created in part to honor our son, Meiko Locksley.
Meiko was reading on a 2nd grade level at the age of 4. His love of reading stayed with him throughout high school, often completing Harry Potter books within days of their release. Meiko was an easy-going kid who loved to play football. He played Division 1 football until his mental health changed.
There were signs that he was not ok. Meiko was diagnosed with bipolar disorder then psycho affective disorder. He began to self-medicate in addition to using doctor prescribed medication. He soon had to drop out of college and navigate his new normal. Meiko was killed on Labor Day, September 3, 2017, at the age of 25. He was the victim of gun violence.
The loss of a child is often regarded as one of the most profound and devastating experiences a parent can endure.
This experience has impacted us immeasurably and we want to help others in a way that honors Meiko. Our family has an opportunity to inspire communities that may experience gun violence, a lack of literacy support, drug and alcohol dependency, and mental health concerns through service.
Our love for our son transcends through service. He was always being of service to others and that is what TBIAF aspires to accomplish.
“What’s good? Tell me something good!” was Meiko’s favorite greeting. We hope to continue depositing good into the earth and our community through TBIAF.”
